Description
After a tragic personal event, a young woman named Augusta (Jasmine Trinca) flees Italy for the Brazilian Amazon to give medical assistance to the indigenous population and to try and restore meaning to her life. Finding that her methods differ from that of the woman she came to help—a hard-line Catholic nun named Franca who aims to convert as well as heal—she discovers another way to help in the favelas of Manaus. Depicting Augusta’s journey with compassion and complexity and an often astonishing visual magnificence, director Giorgio Diritti (The Man Who Will Come, SFIFF 2010) has crafted a work of great beauty.
